'Save As' doesn't work for me.

Previously, in a thread I can't find, I asked about 'Save As' dialog boxes and the ability to save where I want to and not where Mac prefers.  I don't recall getting a positive

answer.  Why am I not permitted to save something where I want to save?

I am frustrated at not being able to do that in Snow Leopard.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Is that problem resolved in Lion or ML?

Apple has not added restrictions to your Save options. In Snow Leopard, File/Save... does exactly the same thing that the File/Save did in older versions of the OS.

    Mr. Me,

Your post is evasive and insulting. You evidently didn't try to understand my question or are just being obtuse. I wasn't saying that this was a new restriction. I was just telling what OS I'm using when I mentioned SL.

I am precluded from saving to the folder that I want instead of the folders Apple offers -  no matter what restrictions Apple had in prior OS's. I was asking if anyone had a solution - a work-around.  If you can't offer a solution, don't bother to post at all - especially a dig.

This is certainly not a general problem or this forum would be inundated with people complaining about it just like you. Which application are you using?

Preview, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, whatever I try to save.

And please, no more digs at me. Who are you to judge me? I'm not complaining; I'm asking for a solution.

What does this MEAN? We'll need more information.

    Tallest Skil,

I take it from your "Please tell me you're not referencing this:" that I am somehow in error. Yes, I am referencing the first dialog box in your post, but I don't understand why not.  I just want to be able to save a file where I want to and not just where Apple says I have to.

I am unaware of the second dialog box in your post. I see that it shows 'New Folder'. How do I access that dialog box? Would that give me the ability to save  where I want to save? I'm pretty much technically challenged, so I may be missing something that's obvious to others.

Thank you for not ridiculing me -  and for whatever suggestions you may make.

Hit this thing. I don't know what they call it. image Also don't know why Apple decided to have everything revert to that as default when you install a new OS these days.

Thanks, I was hitting the up/down arrow on the second line: 'Where:'
