Upgrading from 10.5.8 to snow leopard.

Hello, I've just bought an iPhone 5, not knowing that it wouldn't talk to my 6yo MacBook. I've been informed to call apple to send me the snow leopard disks and then upgrade to lion from there. I'll also have to get an extra 2gig of ram installed bringing it up to 4gig in total. After all this I have to figure out what to do with all the old apps I'm running. My question is, if I upgrade the OS X can I then upgrade Sibelius, GarageBand, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, iPhoto from my old versions reliably, or do I have to buy new versions. What is the best/cheapest way forward?

The only thing even questionable is Sibelius. You obviously don't have version 7, and to keep using it after the update you may need it. I don't know if 6 requires Rosetta…
