Thanks for the urgent help...
(OS X & HP Deskjet 812c)
Does anyone have a printer description file for a Deskjet 812c? Or is there a way to make one. I am using print center to set up a networked printer (connected to a D-Link wireless router and print server) but the HP printer I want won?t show up in the list. (Location: Open Print Center->select Network printer->Get info->select a printer discripton) I think there should be a printer description file or some profile I should link to so the printer will work. I?ve tried ?generic? and other selections with no success.
If I need to stir some emotions into you OS X fans, here it goes: ?OS 9 could do it!?
PLS respond

have you tried these yet?
however, that printer description can likely be put in your networking printer area (whatever it's called) no problem. then quit the printer center and start it back up again.
ok, it should go here
Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/driverfile.gz
are you trying to print over appletalk or IP?

edit: hmm, maybe not. i put the drivers on my machine but can't find the driver file. when you connect to it via USB, it shows the specific driver, right, but then you can't find then when you're setting it up for IP?

the drivers are in a .plugin folder that the software installed. approx. 17MB. as far as i can tell, there's no way to rip the printer description out of there.
strange, i'll try and figure this out, if for no other reason than it would be interesting to know.
so what happens when you try the Generic drivers? have you tried similar HP models that actually show up via IP? i saw i had a driver for an 800 series, but it was a design jet, not deskjet

If you want to know: We got a 12" PowerBook with an airport extreme card. I used OS X for 3 days and love it. Its a really a fun operating system. I still feel I have more control of OS 9, but OS X has some cool new features that will be hard to live without. I am looking at buying a new computer a LOT more seriously now.
I enabled journaling on the hard drive through the terminal since I couldn't find the option in the disk utility. It was before I installed any programs so I noticed a small change. System performance does not seem to change with that exception. My 2 cents.
We hooked up a USB Logitech optical mouse (2 buttons, and a scroll wheel). We tried to get a USB floppy disk drive but those things cost $60! There is nothing on the drive worth anything near 60 bucks. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" /> I suggested a small compact flash card + adapter. (Much cheaper) I set up a ethernet network with the Mac, a PC, and the printer hooked up to a router. (He may be getting Cable/DSL soon )
My Grandpa watched his first DVDs yesterday. That was so cool, especially when he got to the special features. He also burned a audio CD and learned the interface surprisingly fast. Kudos to Apple.
Again, thanks for all the help fellow AI's. <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />
