Saw this article on Gizmodo - anybody actually use or see one of these phones?

Interesting company...one of the major economic threats/ powers are direct to consumer companies and China seems to be leveraging this more and more lately. Especially on ebay.

Is this legal?

This shortened supply chain business model is not new but more companies are trying to do it lately

As I understand it, they just sell directly to consumers. There are some American business models that do this. My favorite is Bikes Direct which sells straight fron the factory in Taiwan (usually). Great choice if you need a new bike! Wednesday 12:33pm

apple also sells direct to consumers and for a long time, that was the only place you could get an apple product. but that's not a "supply chain" issue. xiaomi probably uses the same supply chain principles apple uses, which is well admired in mfg circles. Wednesday 12:45pm

Thanks! Your the best, I was just looking to buy bikes to do bikeathons. Now I'll save some money. Wednesday 1:19pm

They're good bikes, too! Many of them are the same hardware as, say, Treks or Cannondales but just have different paint jobs. Wednesday 1:25pm

Sorry, but I've got to be "That guy".

Apple actually didn't sell directly to consumers for an extremely long time. Apple Specialist stores were around almost before Apple itself was. Not until the late 90's did Apple have stores of its own or an online store to sell directly to them either. Wednesday 2:55pm

fair enough. but the point stands: Adam doesn't know what a supply chain is. he seems to conflate it with distribution channels. Wednesday 3:09pm

Even if they did own their own factories they would be copying Apple, not the other way around. They didn't make every single component themselves (afaik) but Apple has manufactured their own computers in the past. Wednesday 6:17pm

This Chinese phone company might beat Apple in China? Does anyone have any more info on these phones?
