Ok, I have a 17" iMac connected to DSL via ethernet and I have a 12" PowerBook connected to the iMac via Airport (card to card, no base station yet) Now I can surf the web fine, infact I'm posting this from the new powerbook (its really sweet ) The problem is they can't see each other. I have file sharing turned on on both of them, but when I do Go->Connect to Server on either machine all it sees is itself.

What is the proper way to set things up so I can transfer files between the 2 machines?

I'm totally unqualified to answer this but I have got my iMac and ibook able to transfer files so I can tell you what I did. I don't know what system you have but mine have 10.2.3.

    On the iMac:

    switch airport on

    Create network - click OK

(Make sure filesharing is on and internet sharing in Prefs if needed)

    On the iBook:

    Switch airport on

Join the network - it should do this automatically if you have Rendezvous

Select GO menu - Connect to server

iMac hard disk should appear in the dialogue box

This works for me. if it doesn't for you you need a better brain than mine .
