Ok I tried filemaker 6, but i have to connect to a remote host that uses filemaker 3, through TCP/IP, and well I can't get it too work. I was trying it out so I wouldn't have to use classic. Any reason why? Is any new version not compatible with previous versions? The filemaker server is an emac I think at one of our clients, they refuse to update because they say they'd have to rewrite all their forms and everything to use OS X and filemaker 6, its too bad. If anyone knows how to resolve this I'd really appreciate it, and if any of you are in the austin, texas area that is good at working with macs tech wise, let me know because they'd be interested.

Is anyone behind a Firewall? I don't know specifically about older version compatibility, but first things first: Firewall?

Nope no firewall, as far as I'm aware. If there is one in the router maybe, but filemaker 3 in classic connects just fine, I would assume it would have the same problem if firewalls was the issue. Any other thoughts?

The Filemaker file formats underwent a major change between versions 3 & 4. Try to open a v.3 FM file in 4 or higher and it has to convert it to the new format.

So, no, you cannot connect to an FM3 server from 4 or higher.
