So I went away for a few days, leaving my 17in 800Mhz iMac on. I come back and all kinds of errros for the apps i left open. Finding things working slow and weird I just rebooted. Now everything reset to the defult settings.. desktop, dock, everything. I try to change something (like the desktop pic.) and all i get is the beachball. I've tryed to run drive 10 but it asks for an admin password, and when I type it in it tells me my account isnt admin (but it really is). So i tried to run disk first aid and a few other drive things that i have and nothing can fix it. is there anything i can do short of reformating?

Try to boot from the Mac OS 9 CD with some Norton Utils. Fix everything that's still fixable. Then boot from the original Mac OS X CD and reset passwords if they got corrupted. Then boot normally and fix permissions.

The first step, I'm afraid, is the last hope of yours.
