Meanwhile, Woz lets loose with some pie hole flatulence by stating that Apple should make an Android phone. Has the Woz finally jumped the shark?
Woz is the kind of person who is more interested in how something works rather than how it looks. Like who really knows what context he had in mind, he probably meant make an iPhone that can run NDK apps from iOS, to avoid Blackberry's fate (which was having a crappy OS that was overly reliant on a proprietary BBM.) iOS isn't BlackBerry, not by a long shot.
What you have to do is look at both Nokia and Blackberry. iOS ate the lions share of high-end PDA-like phones, while Android ate all the crappy feature phones that Nokia and Motorola put out. This was because even the cheapest Android phone is better than any feature phone, and iOS was better than everything at the time, even when it was lacking features like 3G, 4G, high-resolution cameras and removable storage. When the iPhone came out, Nokia's best phone as the N95, 7 years ago. Blackberry totally had a brain hemmorage http://appleinsider.com/articles/10/12/27/rim_thought_apple_was_lying_about_original_iphone_in_2007 when they heard about the iPhone. The best device they had in 2007 was what... the Blackberry curve? They didn't even have 3G, or GPS capabilities which the Nokia N95 had. It just goes to show that the market leader doesn't have to have the most bleeding edge hardware, but they do need to stay ahead of the game on their software which both Blackberry (going so far to buy QNX) and Nokia (dumping Symbian and Linux based OS's for completely-incompatible Windows Phone) failed to do and screwed up the end-game. I don't see Blackberry having a salvageable moment, they would have had to have bought QNX in 2005 to have had any way of keeping up with the iPhone. Nokia was in a slightly better position because Symbian was already an open source OS, and does pretty much everything iOS does (including running webkit, but lacking multitouch at the time) and pretty much everyone who switched to Android was previously on Symbian. Who knows if Symbian at the time would support a dual-core CPU.
Arguably Symbian was better Mobile OS than Android was, but the graphics systems in these feature phones were horrible. At least you could use C++ for the entire application unlike Android... still. Google knows this was a mistake using Java, but Android developers are stuck with this legacy. That leaves iOS as the only developer friendly mobile platform. So iOS is not going to suffer the fate of Blackberry unless Google abandons Android and releases something that developers actually would prefer to use. This won't happen on Android since there's fragmentation and wide hardware performance disparities between Android devices.
Hell, look at the game consoles. Ouya... flop, Pandora, flop, GP32, flop. Nobody wants these things except to play pirated software on. Developers do not flock to platforms because they are "open" they flock to them because there's money to be made. If it's too complicated to port a game to, then it's going to flop.
I doubt Tim's story of the origins of the name Europe and I doubt that Americans are as stupid as he's implying.
There was a poll not many years ago, and a huge percentage (can't remember what it was, but it was really large) couldn't find Russia -- RUSSIA! -- on a world map. Americans' lack of knowledge about the rest of the world -- heck lack of knowledge about America itself -- cannot be overestimated.
Heck, when Sarah Palin was being prepped for the debates in 2008 they had to explain to her where Germany was, that they were part of the Axis in WWII, etc. Really scary.
This is from 2006, but if anything it's most likely gotten worse:
Quote:
Among the findings:
One-third of respondents couldn’t pinpoint Louisiana on a map and 48 percent were unable to locate Mississippi.
Fewer than three in 10 think it important to know the locations of countries in the news and just 14 percent believe speaking another language is a necessary skill.
Two-thirds didn’t know that the earthquake that killed 70,000 people in October 2005 occurred in Pakistan.
Six in 10 could not find Iraq on a map of the Middle East.
While the outsourcing of jobs to India has been a major U.S. business story, 47 percent could not find the Indian subcontinent on a map of Asia.
While Israeli-Palestinian strife has been in the news for the entire lives of the respondents, 75 percent were unable to locate Israel on a map of the Middle East.
Nearly three-quarters incorrectly named English as the most widely spoken native language.
Six in 10 did not know the border between North and South Korea is the most heavily fortified in the world. Thirty percent thought the most heavily fortified border was between the United States and Mexico.
I mean, COME ON! How can nearly half of Americans aged 18-24 not be able to find India?! I mean, ooh, if it were like Montenegro or Andorra or something, even say Serbia, I could understand. But not only is India a HUGE country, it is also very distinctive looking. And not knowing where Louisiana is? Give me a break. You have to either live in your basement 24/7 doing nothing but playing Xbox or be partially retarded.
Did they conduct the test at the Tri-Delta House (Animal House)?
Got it: you flunked your GED and don’t even own a Mac.
For some reason, I can't use Calendar App on MacBook. WHY? Says "Access to account not permitted."
Either you have your credentials for the linked web-based calendar incorrect or damage has been done to the local Calendar application file itself.
But I need to vent my frustration.
Why not fix your problem instead? Reinstall the OS. Someone with a Master’s degree such as yourself should be intelligent enough to know that an inability to access an application on your computer isn’t standard behavior, much less is happening to everyone.

Nice interview. Apple executives show remarkable restraint in their interview responses, especially in crafting them in a way that doesn't reveal too much about their future plans, but definitely wets the appetite. We all just need to stay tuned.

1. I disagree. Cook has been saying "I can't tell you what we have planned, but it's really exciting" for years now, and people generally get tired of this -- it is sort of pointless and insulting (in its condescension). Why say anything, if that's all you are going to say?

Because Steve said exactly the same thing and people didn’t whine for his fifteen years.
The losers that got sucked into this shill ponzy scheme won't know what hit them when the bubble finally bursts.
Any stock that goes up $48 one day and down $26 the next is an obviously manipulated bubble-stock.
Goopgle only licenses (steals) and/or acquires what it wants and sloughs it off as innovation.
It's only source of revenue is friggin' ADVERTISING (and back-end spam), and advertising is on it's way out.
The whole Spewgle scheme is one big NSA back-door lie.
It's only a matter of time until the investment community catches on to the Gewgle lie.
p.s. try opting out of any Gewgle ads in your browser, and see how BLANK the website becomes!
Clearly we should be taking our financial advice from someone who makes up names like a 7-year-old and doesn't understand the use of apostrophes. I'd explain how absolute $$ changes for GOOG are about half as significant as the same price change for APPL, but it would go over your head.

He even spelled Ponzi Scheme wrong so perhaps all his attempts at spelling Google is just his atrocious orthography.

Then, out of nowhere 64bit, but that doesn't really count because blah, blah, blah!

Blah, blah, blah being: it makes ZERO difference to the user experience (certainly to my user experience, but I have never heard anyone say different). Yes, it will in a couple of years, but we can discuss it then. Of course, by that time I suspect Apple will not be the only 64bit vendor.
Why did you add more blah, blah, blah, when I already had it covered?
Your original post said (I translate): no matter what you say, I have decided that 64 bit was great advance, facts be damned. Your last post says: dude! I TOLD you I don't care about the facts! I actually know that, but I am guessing there are a couple of people here who don't live in NeverNeverLand.

Which it was, in spite of all the negative drivel from those suffering from sour grapes.
I don't need some crappy quad core processor overloaded with RAM, requiring a huge battery hiding behind an oversized screen to have one of the most powerful smartphones on Earth, I have an iPhone 5s.

One of my favorites, for sure.
Stop being a fool and reinstall. Software: fixed.
Been an Apple follower since the 70s.
And I'm educated with a masters degree.
