iPod and loose jog wheel

My iPod's wheel has gotten so loose lately. If I turn it to one side in my hand while it's playing, the wheels turns, and the volume changes. If I move it with my thumb, and let go, the wheel keeps spinning a couple more centimeters.



This isn't right. I'm tired of the volume fluctuating while I'm running or walking. This has just happened recently.



Anyone else out there have this problem? I don't have another iPod to compare mine to.



Or maybe take mine apart, and see if there's a way to increase the friction on the jog wheel?

    Search the Apple Support website, there might be something there on what to do :cool:

    Yeah, I've got this problem too. I thought it was because I dropped it 3 feet onto concrete. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> I guess not. Just make sure you put the hold on when you don't mean to adjust anything. That oughta keep it from doing anything.

    Everyone I've talked to that has had their iPod for a while says the jog wheel seems to get "looser" after a while. If I press down too hard on mine now, I can feel it scraping against something. *sigh*

    That scraping is just a piece of grit or dirt that has got below the wheel.



    You can pop the wheel off like a key cap, and clean inside, and the top surface of the wheel at the same time.

    Wow, you're right. That dirt that always clumped up on the bottom of the balls in a mouse seems to have gotten around the spinning thing underneath jog dial.all better now that it is clean Thanks

    There is a metallic strip along the outside of the underside of the jog wheel. It has a lubricant on it to aid in it's spinning, so I think maybe the scraping some feel is some of the lubricant from the factory wearing off. There are certain places under there where it is obvious as to what it is scraping on. I seem to have gotten it taken care of though but lubing it up a tad
