I discovered that I dented my iPod's stainless steel back. It works just as it did...but why?
it wasn't a hammer. i still have no idea what could have done this. a puzzling mystery...

I hear that solar flares have a tendancy to cause iPods to suddenly dent and since there was a large solar flare the other night..well there ya go....
Just kidding. Really sorry to hear about your iPod. As soon as i bought mine i got a neoprene sleeve and all is well. Maybe you could buy one of those and no one would know its there but you. Also there is a fairly cool skin wrap thingy that you can buy that is like tape with cool prints on it...that might cover it up.
actually i had bought a nice leather case for my iPod. But i hated it so i didn't use it anymore...which led to the dent. it's kind of funny in a way.

Yeah..I wish you could take the back off to replace or change batteries. I am waiting for the day that my battery doesn't work anymore so I can have a $400 paper weight.

There is a certain amount of care you want to invest in an iPod. Apparently, there is a certain amount you lost.
not the end of the world, be happy that you are fortunate enough to be able to spend the money on an iPod where some users are not in the financial position to purchase one.
Even when the iPod reaches paperweight status, you can still use it as an external, firewire drive to store songs and/or data. Of course by the time the battery dies (I hope....), the iPod capacity will be laughable most likely. Regardless...what a pretty paperweight...
This is really stupid but, mechanics have tools for sucking dents out of cars, if you dont mind scaring a mechanic by asking him "could you get this dent out my mp3 player" you might get a result.

Why would the battery die? Remember, iPods use polymer ion batteries. They don't develop memory like most other kinds of batteries.
