Nintendo would run their properties into the ground before they let anyone buy them. They’ve already said they’re never porting to iOS, et. al.
I think they’re making a huge mistake with that, particularly their back libraries, but I respect them completely for being the Apple of games. They could create properties for iOS, sure, but when they have full control over what the hardware does, they’re able to make a complete experience better than otherwise.
I’d love to see every single NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube game under the official Nintendo developer page in the App Store. It’d make them billions. But it just won’t happen. Heck, they could do GameBoy, GBA, and DS games, too.
It would be up to 3rd party developers/publishers to port everything else. The classics could find a whole new audience but the best-selling apps in the App Store don't seem to sell more than 10-20 million copies and at a low price. The free to play apps like Candy Crush get way more downloads so in-app purchases for levels could be a route to go down.
I doubt they'd get hundreds of millions of downloads for older games but they'd get enough for it to be worth doing. At the very least they should do it with older titles that currently aren't making money.

Part of it may be the design of the games. Most were designed for some kind of controller rather than touch input. It may be that they're concerned about tarnishing the brand with something that would not port well.

Does that make EA microsoft? Strangely that was the first thing that came to mind.

Oh, in terms of being a company that creates properties and whores them out to all platforms? Yeah, that fits. " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Rather than Microsoft, I generally see EA like this:

That's really silly. I was mostly referring to EA as being soulless and ruining other companies.

They'd only be able to port their own franchises:

Ooh, soulless; that’s even better. Replace the above with a satanism symbol and there we go.
