iTunes and MP3 Pro

Does anyone know if Apple eventually plans to support the format? Are they holding back because of licensing or is there some other reason for not jumping on the technology sooner? <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

    Current rumor is that the next major version of iTunes will use a plugin architecture, rather than building the MP3 decoder into the program. So, anyone with the proper code could write an Ogg Vorbis plugin, or MP3Pro, etc.
