Philips CEO Has Private Chat With Jobs
[quote] Philips is big bad and virtually unknown
Category: Real-Time Economy
It is not often that a CEO of a $28 billion revenue company with 184,000 employees in more than 60 wanders into the Red Herring, but that is exactly what happened last week. Gerard Kleisterlee, CEO, Philips Electronics was on a swing through Silicon Valley, which included a keynote at the Churchill Club, and a private chit-chat with Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and he asked us if our editors might also want to chat.

The article also mentions how "When the discussion turned to Apple, Mr. Kleisterlee was all compliments. ?Steve Jobs wants to make sure all our products can talk with his,? he explained. ?Apple does a great job at making things easy for the consumer.?" And how the "Windows operating systems is not going to come into the TV world? as it is too complicated. For true convergence to happen, Mr. Kleisterlee believes there needs to be common platform that allows interoperatability between consumer devices."
Could it be a new TVcentric idevice they were discussing? I sure as heck hope so! I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Phillips has already announced that they're working on rendezvous-enabled consumer electronics devices. I forsee a stereo that will play music in your iTunes library via a LAN with very little configuration.

The TiVo Series 2 DVRs should actually have this functionality via the Home Media Option this April-ish. They're working on software to allow you to stream iTunes music and iPhoto images to your TiVo for display on your TV. Which is great for people who have exceptionally nice speakers connected
Rendezvous access would be even cooler though. I'm sure this is more likely what they were talking about rather than any new, apple branded product.

Cool! Too bad I just got a new Sony stereo (for free, from using my Sony Visa card).
Escher
Those guys pretty much defined coy, but there were interesting nuggets buried in their posts.
Prophecy fulfilled.

What? How is that anything like what I was saying? That stereo plays internet radio stations. You could only play your own MP3s with that by setting up your own server.

You're right, I was going by what I saw on TiVo's site... then I hit Apple's Rendezvous page and it explained it all. Very cool
- Philips: Play iTunes through your stereo system or something bigger like connect your receiver and play iMovies at full screen and with 5.1 surround stereo (if that were a feature of iMovie)
- TiVo: Manage your "To Do " and "Now Playing lists"
