I've just started using iMovie for the first time, and half of my clips are imported with a blank "icon" when they're in the drawer. Is there a way to take a specific frame from the clip and use it as the "icon"?

So you're just stuck with gray or blue boxes? That's odd.

iMovie normally just takes the first frame of a clip and uses it as the icon. There are exceptions to this such as titles, which use their "main" frame (the one with the title in full view) in the clip preview.

I figured as much, only it's very inconsistent. I've taken to cutting frames off the beginning of my already captured clips just so iMovie recreates a clip preview (or whatever you want to call it.) Even those sometimes disappear after a while.

In i-Movie 2 "some" my preview icons get scrambled or blanked when I dump any clip trims in the trash and delete it. i-movie 3 fixed this for me but added other "problems" but not with the preview clips anymore...well they work great in i-3. The auto render is something I could live without and would be the easy bug fix for Apple.... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
