new 30 AND 40 gig iPods?

I am sure most everyone has seen this but Toshiba now has new 20, 30, and 40 gig 1.8" HDs that go in the iPod. The new 20 gigger is the thin model like the current 10 gig, while the 30 and 40 gig models are the larger 8mm drives(like the current 20gb)

I guess the question is: Do you think Apple will update to 30 AND 40 gig models or just choose 40, or get rid of the 5 gig model? I am going to buy the next model whatever the middle of the range is, eventhough I think a $199 5gb iPod with solid state wheel would be hard for many to resist.

What do you think?

I think Apple should release a 40 GB model with a color screen. Up until recently I was mixed on the idea but just today I decided Japan would love it. They love gadgets like that. Smack a mini camera on top and it would sell even more there than it already is.

Either way I do expect a 40 GB one, but I have absolutely no insider info.

I don't remember seeing s 30 GB 1.8" HDD on the Toshiba site, but I do remember seeing the 40 GB model. They took it off their pages though...

Jack Osbourne told Donny Osmond, in some behind the scenes footage from their superbowl ad, that he was using a 40GB iPod. Though if he is truly in possession of pre-released hardware or was simply razzing Donny's 20GB I can't really say.

The footage is available on pepsitwist.com, Exclusive Behind the Scenes Footage, Episode #2 Battle of teh Bands.

Toshiba is already using their new 30GB 1.8" HDs in their new line of Portégé Ultra Light notebooks (the 2010 model). The drives are out there and I am sure Apple is producing 30GB models as we speak. 40GB might be a bit of a stretch from the 20GB model - especially due to the price (in Apple's world anyway).

    Pretty sweet Notebook btw:

Been trying to get a 10 or 20GB iPod in UK for last two weeks via a dealer (MacWarehouse type). The two main suppliers in the UK who the dealers get their gear from - Ingram Micro and Computer 2000 - are both out of stock of any sized Mac iPods. Coincidence?

One of them (Comp 2k) told my dealer today that it was 'because of the Chinese new Year!!' - I actually overheard the conversation.

Does this suggest a revamp in the Apple version?

Note: Apple (UK) store have a 5-7 days lead time. I know there may be some available in other places but have reasons for going through my dealer. There are loads of Windows versions about.
