New Machines & Ramblings
With the new iMacs being G4 all that's left g3 is the ibook.
Moving onto the big question though "What about the Towers?"
Well I don't know how everyone else feels about this subect but I feel that the G4 tower has been around far too long we need something new, something awesome, something killer (again).
I beleive the next major revision should include a 'G5' processor and DDR memory.
And much better graphics card options, I mean PC's have all the latest and greatest options available to them so why cant we.
Ge Force MX whats al that about, isn't it time we had more options?
Don't get me wrong I'm not anti Apple It's just I have been using them for nearly 10 years and I'm fedup with them being slow on the up-take of some new technologies i.e USB 2.0, DDR Ram, Better Graphics etc etc.
Now I know there would be a downside to this uptake, the fact that the machine would need constant updating and the mac market would have to ramp up it's manufacturing like the PC (constantly having to stay abreast of technologies).
Im not saying this would have to happen all I am saying is we should be given more choice even if its just on CTO.
Also the last point I am fed up with is the cloak and dagger anti PR.
Do we know about what apple are doing? no!
Do we know what they are currently working on? no!
Now again we don't have to know everything, but new technologies etc or just general information would be nice.
How can you trust a company if you don't know what their upto or what they are doing?

I believe it should include a complimentary Home Pregnancy test, a free 24 month subscription to Field & Stream magazine, and a $20 Home Depot Gift Card but I bet none of those things will be in the box either.

OS X? Is that a BTO option at the Dell Store? Where do they have the option for "case that does not smack of lameness"

Don't be surprised if your Mac gets wise to the fact that you're just using it. Be forewarned, that can be an ugly scene?

How can I trust the Air Force? They won't tell me what they are working on! Man, I mean they work on these planes for years before they publicly introduce them! Don't I pay for their salaries and all the stuff they buy?! Wait, how can I trust you? What are you doing right now? What are you up to anyway? Why don't all the PC makers announce their new consumer products a month or two before they launch them? Why? Why? Why? The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind, it's blowing in the wind?

I would like to point out that the latest G4s do use a completely new Mobo with a brand new IO controller and the big 2 MB DDR backside cache.

You can trust them to do their best to make their products as good as possible, within certain economic restraints. If their product is not good enough, they will go out of business. "Good" is a relative term by the way. If speed were everything, everyone would travel by flying the SST; if comfort was most important, all ocean crossings would be via the QE2; and if cost was primary, it would be a Hyundai. Many people think Apple does a good job of combining reasonable speed with exceptional comfort (read ease of use) and at an acceptable price.
I think the hardware side of Apple has been subsidizing the software side for the past several years. It was imperative to get OS X out, and that was a very expensive proposition. Hardware will start getting more attention, and we've just seen the first real hint with the release of Xserver.
By the way, there will never be much specific information about what is coming out next. Would you buy a new 700MHz iBook today if you knew in three months that it wouldn't be as good as the bottom of the line model? They want to make money on the current model, right up to the end.
So what else is there to trust about Apple, or any company? Do you expect them to say something like, "Hey - we are stuck at a max of 1.2MHz processors for at least the next year, and may never get past 2MHz. We can't get Motorola to work any faster, they may be bankrupt soon in fact, and IBM has told us to take a hike. We can't figure out how to move to Intel or AMD without completely abandoning all current Mac software and all current machines. Please trust that we will keep trying, and in the meantime buy all our new offerings so that we have money to keep up the research. Thank you."
if you can convince the world that a 1.2Ghz G4 is faster than a 3Ghz P4, you can charge more for it. Actually you only need to operate in a "I want to own more shiny stuff the the Jones'" place, i.e. The USA, and convince say around 5% of the people.
You only need to sell one $1,000,000 toothbrush to get rich. Or 1,000,000 $1 ones.

-- The U.S. isn't the only place operating in a "I want more shiny stuff" environment, and never was. The rest of the world may see it that way, but I find Europe, Japan, and even Canada are right there with us. That is good if you are selling things all over the world. It is bad if you feel capitalism is the worst discovery ever.

Oh man, this is a great post! Beleive it or not, sometimes I think people do expect Apple to say this sort of stuff. Some people don't understand the motivation and big picture of corporations.
Come on, folks... help us keep the forum clean by NOT starting all these redundant new topics...
