Mac fanatics can breathe a sigh of relief. Apple will soon be offering them a legitimate music download service.

According to various music industry sources, Apple is preparing to launch a subscription download service that will allow consumers to download major label songs onto Apple computers and devices. The service which the major labels have signed off on will be similar to Windows based outfits such as Pressplay and MusicNet one source said.

Terms of the labels licensing arrangements with Apple aren't known but sources said that the industry funded Preeplay MusicNet were not involved.

Apple refused to comment on any new service. Similarites the five major labels-BMG, Warner Music, Universal Music, EMI and Sony- all refused comment.

Some in the music industry are skeptical about the impact that a Mac music service could have.
