If they don't show one at MWNY then they lose my money
I have set aside $1200 for a Sony desktop:
<a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/digitalstudio/gigapocket.shtml" target="_blank">http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/digitalstudio/gigapocket.shtml</a>
I'm waiting for MWNY and if there isn't a device with the specs that MOSR discussed then Sony gets the cash.
I own no PCs (and 6 macs), but if Apple can't integrate this sort of technology into its machines then they don't deserve the business.
I'll still be using my macs for everything EXCEPT the DVR. I can't turn any of my macs into DVRs, that's just lame.

Would be nice if Apple had something similar.
<strong>or you could just buy a tivo.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Agreed!
In fact, buy new Satellite service and get a Tivo FREE! :-)
I guarantee you a Tivo is about 10 times as functional as the Sony machine. :-)
<strong> my TV is exclusively used for two things: DVDs, and Bill Mahr.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Me too... just for DVD... but who's Bill???

During our conversation I found out that his property had the size of almost exactly the area one of our base stations covers, meaning catering for his needs we needed one station just for him. I guarateed him that we would never be able to do that and I am afraid you are in the exact same position as him...
Besides that Jobs hates TV and animal cruelty.

If Apple ever introduced a PVR feature, it would be its own digital device and not part of the computer itself.
Computers crash...especially ones that aren't sitting idle. If you have a PVR as part of your PC, what's going to happen the next time your crash? And what kind of hit are you going to experience with the PVR constantly writing to disk?
Don't demand a dumb technology from Apple and threaten to leave.
It's not a threat, it's a reality.
I'm not telling apple what to do, I'm buying a system to record shows to MPEG2 and burn them on dvd without copyportection or any of the other spyware that tivo brings to the game.
It will be a seperate device (away from my macs.)
Apple has the DVD burners, has the MPEG2 capacity and only lacks minor connections between the technologies.
Whaaaa, I want a tuner/MPEG2 encoder/DVD burner!
And I'm gonna buy one.
That's all.

And you're sure that Sony will let you do that?
Who's copyprotecting CDs?
Go buy their digital recorder. It's a nifty looking device that should be able to do what you want to do.
