It must be some sort of sign! Some signal coming through the ether, telling you it's time to buy a new Mac... or at least an iPod for Christmas. Though remember - an iPod is for life, not just for Christmas.

But once I'm at the Galleria, all is cool
And Belle, I think you're right!
I am, however, going to wait until MWSF, JUST IN CASE. If a new, redesigned iMac is not unveiled then (LCD or othewise), then it'll be a 600MHz combo drive iBook with all the trimmings (AirPort, SoundSticks, boatload of RAM, etc.)

Are you going to get the lovely new matching Base Station? I suppose it makes sense to wait until MWSF, and it'll be something to look forward to in the bleak period after Christmas and New Year. I've got into the habit of keeping little gifts to give friends in January, because so many seem to be a little down. Perhaps it's because someone keeps giving them crappy gifts every January?

Oh definitely. So the new Base Station IS indeed a glossy, iBookish white, huh? The pics seem to point to that, but I've also been surprised, in the past, the differences between photos on Apple's site vs. seeing the stuff in real life (Flower Power, the Cube's size, Key Lime iBooks, etc.).
That would be a nice little matching set...iBook and white Base Station
Sounds silly, but I almost hope a new iMac ISN'T unveiled in Frisco because then my decision will be made for me, and it will be easy. If they roll out some cool iMac with 1024x768 resolution, 800MHz (or more), HUGE hard drive, combo drive, sleek new design, gorgeous screen, etc. I'm going to have some serious coin tossing to do!
I only want one computer, too. I did the iMac/iBook thing before and it was a waste. I NEVER used the iBook and ended up selling it to a buddy because my iMac was faster, larger screen, etc.
If ALL I have is an iBook (and my entire life is on it: music, writing, illustration, work, finances, etc. AND it's all portable and I'm not chained to a desk), I'll probably use it more than my current iMac...and I use it A LOT.
The thought of slouching across a chair or my bed, or on the front porch, doing what I'm doing right now, makes me all fuzzy.
Put it this way: a new iMac at MWSF is going to have to be the Swingin' King Daddy of iCoolness and features to pull me away from dreams of going mobile and having everything I do and cherish in a small, totable Chiclet-esque laptop.
It's gonna have to be AT LEAST 800MHz, AT LEAST 1024x768, AT LEAST a 60GB hard drive, good speakers, a DVD/CD-R combo drive (preferably slot-loading, but I won't quibble), nice video card, reasonable price, cool look. It doesn't even have to be an LCD-based design (I wouldn't mind an iMac that looked like the recently discontinued 17" CRT Studio Display), but it does have to have a larger screen: either that of a 17" CRT, or like the size/resolution of the current 15" Studio Display.
Enough of this 800x600, 13.8" viewable crap.
If the new iMac doesn't meet or exceed ANY of the above, then I'll be completely happy to go with the iBook and enjoy the mobile, portable nature of it all.
I'm getting kinda excited, actually, because it's getting close...just another 6 or 7 weeks. I'll probably end up giving my iMac to a good buddy of mine because she would cherish and love it, plus she can't afford a computer right now, and so it would be cool to surprise her with it.
Plus, I would know my Tangerine Baby would be in good hands and I'd still have visitation rights.

I can see Fashion Valley Mall from my apartment balcony-- I AM SO THERE! Gotta load up on free Apple T-Shirts and the like, and what better day to go than the "busiest shopping day of the year!"
So pscates, you gonna make it to the store on opening day?
Even if they bail, I'll probably still come on down.
