What do you guys think about Xpod? New Software that makes iPod Windows compatible.

What do you guys think about this app? I am not really shure yet. But from the sounds of it I would say that I would rather see iPod be a Apple only thing. But on the other hand it is a nice product to get windows users hoked on the Mac.

The fact that it works will be good enough for most... but how does its interface compare to that of iTunes? And HD support?

And what about all those Vaio users who think they're set with their 4-pin i.Link connectors...

Oh well guys, better go pick up an iBook!

Well, I think it's good for Apple, because it pushes FireWire. People will have to buy FW cards just to use iPod, or demand that their new machines have FireWire.

However, it is a little irritating because the iPod isn't Mac-only anymore--but hey, we all knew someone was gonna make an app for Windoze users.

Mediafour is the maker of <a href="http://www.mediafour.com/products/"; target="_blank">MacDrive</a> (which reads, writes and formats Mac disks on Windows PCs), so it shouldn't be an issue.

I wonder if they gonna integrate the software to an existing Windows MP3 player (through a plug-in?) or if they gonna develop a specific sofware to transfer files.

    This is great.

It will really help push the iPod for teens who like everything else, is predominantly Wintel. No person will say "that iPod is so cool, Im gonna get a $1000 iMac to use it" So I am glad that is happening, it was pretty obvious that a Wintel driver was to come about.

Yes, but it would be even cooler if Windows compatibility was supported officially by Apple. I guess Mediafour will charge for XPod, and on iPod's official specs people will not see that this software exists.

Steve Jobs said that Apple will try to make iPod Windows-savvy, but that is was not a priority. Perhaps they will be interested in buying XPod from Mediafour, saving development costs and time... What do you think?

I think it's a good thing. I have a Rev A. iBook, so I can't use any firewire stuff. I do have a PC too that I can add a firewire card to for $90 or so. If I really wanted the ipod, then this atleast gives me an inexpensive option to make it a reality, rather than getting a new machine.

Total cost for me would still be $400 for the iPod and card, which seems like too much for a portable MP3 player...
