I just realize that my one day old iBook has one red dot on the screen and it stays at red all the time....
Is it a dead pixel?

My iceBook/500 has the same problem. I've just learned to ignore it. And yes, it is a dead pixel, one that cannot be cured. I believe its caused by a broken transistor in the screen.
Wrap the soft cloth around your index finger and "massage" the area around the pixel very gently. It may not work first time, it may not work at all.
Out of interest, did you notice if the faulty pixel was there earlier? If it's been there since the iBook was originally purchased, chances are it's going to be permanently stuck. If it's recently appeared, the massaging will most likely fix it. Pixel anomalies tend to arise during production rather than through use.

Nope, don't worry. If it's showing as a color, it's just stuck. Get a soft cloth and rub it very gently.

How to rub?
I turn the machine off...'punch' that that area with my thumb and turn the machine back on....now that dot is gone
