FCP3 = BLACK BOX! Do you know what this means?!?
well, nothing, i guess. but for those of us who like to indulge in rampant, unsubstantiated speculation...
every apple application lately has come in some white, sometimes-striped aqua-esque gap-style packaging. suddenly, and without warning. it's black. solid black. that is, well, a 180 degree turn in visual identity, people. any of you who have worked on vis i.d. for companies know you don't just do this suddenly without thinking you'll do it throughout the company! just like they started in 1998 with the imac... bondi blue and ice... soon it was everywhere. then ice, white, and titanium. sure, aqua started off all bright and colorful, but they have started to take out the color, the apple isn't nearly as dark, and they included the graphite theme for those who didn't want all those bright widgets. then the color has slowly but surely been sucked out of the entire product line... (yeah, i know there's still indigo - just shut up, you know-it-all's)
could we be seeing the onset of the new black era in apple??? recall that steve still loves black. the next cube, those turtlenecks...
let's just say i won't be surprised if we start seeing black in other things soon. hey, that pro mouse looks pretty in black.

New PB 667 ads = pb on black background.
Pro = Black background, metal- serious work happening.
iShit = White and happy and fluffy!
Don't read more into it than needs be.
b.) this may mean that a revision or two more may see black enter the case stylings of the pro equipment as well. heck, my pismo is still one sweet looking machine. we always try to anticipate new enclosures and colors for apple products around here; this just adds some fuel to the fire.
c.) isn't rampant theorizing, speculation and grasping at straws what rumor sites are all about?!?

I never realized this before about the ads, but you're right.
It means the PowerMac G5 will sport a glossy black case! Just like I've been wanting for the last few years!!!!!! Woooooooo!~!

I hope so but I doubt it'll happen.
yes, mostly. the side of the box is black (yeah, it sounds minor, but look at apple's software products page... boxed consumer products generally have a colored side, like appleworks). and apple hasn't done a full-scale visual i.d. change at any time recently. the translucent colors were phased in, the aqua was phased in, the titanium/silver stuff is coming in via quicksilver and the tibook. just give it time. plus, changing all the packaging at once would make it too obvious (and not too mention expensive -- you don't want to just throw out all those pre-printed dvd studio pro boxes until you have to, like...
...methinks dvd studio pro 2 (or 1.5, or whatever) WILL be in an all-black box, based off this (since, y'know, they want you to buy both of 'em at the same time).
anyone know anyone who knows anyone at chiat-day? can anyone sneak us the latest apple visual i.d. pdf?
wow -- you wanna see apple blow a gasket? leak that pdf...

Something interesting he talked about was Apple's desire to show more human interaction with their consumer products, instead of the spinning iMacs of years past. They started this with the iBook box and most of its promo photography. Also check out some of the promo photgraphy for the iPod (not the crappy vector illustrations they use on Apple.com, but the pictures in Jobs' keynote - they are more indicative of what we'll probably see in the future.

Don't forget their last few commercials:
iBook: Guy on a plane making an iMovie
iDVD: Couple eloping on the beach
iPod: Guy dancing around crazily.
Finally, PEOPLE actually get to USE their products!
