Was I the only one right about the eMac announcement?
I'll admit, it wasn't brain surgery. The addition of the modem confirmed my suspicions all along: This was the iMac they were gonna build, then scrapped in favor of the LCD version. I doubted it at first, as the eMac had no modem, and I thought: "Maybe Apple came up with this design as a real alternative" nope. It was going to be the next iMac, I'm sure. Since I'm bowling 300, I'll go out on a limb and say the G5 is coming at MWNY, and it won't be the G5 you thought it was.

It will be a three-1ghz-G3-on-a-chip CPU. So then, Apple will have the first 4ghz CPU.

S. Jobsy said that he had a backup iMac2 which was trashed at the final stages of completion... thus sending Ives back to the drawing board for another year or so. It was an iMac that had an LCD screen, thats it (he even showed a fake 'mock-up' during the MWSF keynote). I think the eMac is a bastardized offspring of the current LCD iMac so they could put something into the edu markets price range.
*** I wonder what shape the eMacs motherboard is? ***
Any eMac owners with courage and screwdrivers still up???
thats my take anyways.

As it stands right now, there's just no good reason to consider an iMacG3 (@ $999) when you can get a major improvement in the form of the eMac for only $100 more (@ $1099).
Either the iMacG3 needs to drop down to 499-599, or the eMac needs to drop down to 899-1199 and replace the iMacG3 altogether.
When the eMac was introduced (DOH!) for education only, I knew it would eventually be available to non-education customers (me smart! ), but I thought they would change some (small) features and re-brand it "iMac"; a replacement for the current, low-end, G3, CRT iMac. I still think they should do it this way.
