But here we go again. If there is any truth to the rumors about Apple and AMD here are some benchmarks with AMDs upcoming Hammer at 800 MHz vs. a P4 1600 MHz

The MHz myth takes another dive

    Yeah, yeah..

    Lets hope AMD-64 beats a 3 Ghz Intel P4, so we Mac-heads /Apple-apologists can claim "Look, the MHZ myth is true, so my G4 must be faster than your PC"

    alas, as 'mwny' draws nearer, the more observable the dark cloud hovering powerfully above apple computer company becomes.

    I agree?this is getting old.

    They ought to rename this forum "PC Hardware Envy" and be done with it.

    personally i think benchmarks are a bunch of bull****. It all comes down to how the tests are applied, and theres probably thousands of ways to manipulate them to say that cpu x is better than cpu y or vise versa.

    <sigh>

    yeah, but it IS entirely disheartening to watch other chip manufacturers overcome the speed hurdles and continue to improve the speed of their chips. WHY the powerpc chip continues to resist speed increases of any merit is galling and we ARE envious and we DON'T believe a word of the song and dance that Steve or Avie or Phil do for us when they come out and run some lame-ass, calculated-to-show-it's-faster test between the latest Power Mac and a PC. It doesn't mean that we're going to switch platforms, but the frustration is very real and it IS very widespread and you can see the folks who want to walk away with a killer machine looking down at the floor with fake smiles frozen on their faces as they compare the real specs to the ones they dreamed about just prior to the keynote.

    It's apparent when Steve introduces suck-ass product that he's sometimes embarrassed to do it, but he's a businessman and he knows that life must go on. I just wish for once that there would be some kind of performance explosion from Apple that would REALLY make people sit up and take notice instead of coming back two days later with the REAL math to point out where Apple has shaved the truth and done a spin job.

    I just wish.
