<a href="http://www.snak.com/SnakDownload.html" target="_blank">Snak</a> Is probably the best IRC client out for the Mac. You can get it for 68k, OS 9, And OS X flavors.
<strong>well, apparently this idiot can't write java his way out a paper bag.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Open up mIRC, if it doesn't automatically come up go to File/Options
Under the connect category you will want to click the Add button to add the appleinsider irc server to your server list. Put whatever you want for a Description in the box that pops up under IRC Server type irc.appleinsider.com
Leave the port on default setting. You don't need a password. Now confirm these settings by clicking add button.
Now you should be back at the main options dialog box. In the drop down box ensure that whatever you called appleinsider's irc server is selected. Fill in the blanks for name, email and nickname and if you want alternate nickname. (you can enther anything in these blanks, doesn't have to be your true info)
Now you can just press the connect to IRC Server button in the middle of the dialog box. You'll see some connecting dialog scroll by in the main window. When all that stops you can type /j (as in join) and then the name of whatever channel you want. In this case you would type /j Appleinsider to join the appleinsider channel.
To make it easier on you in the future you might want to go back into options. And on the left select perform under the IRC category. In the box you can type the /j appleinsider and it will automatically execute that command whenever you connect to the server. Make sure to check the box and hit ok. There are a ton of other features but that's the basics of how to connect.

<strong>I don't know either: this is why we're implementing a java, idiot-proof chat solution in the next day or so.
