Earthlink Troubles

I was wondering if anyone other than me have any problems with Earthlink Dial up. I almost always get disconnected after like 2 minutes or less. When it doesn't bomb right after I connect, it will a few minutes later. I'd call them, but the wait is always like 20 minutes. I switched so I would have better access, and so far it seems I'm paying MORE for a provider that's worse than before.

I've been connected for, like 5 hours now with no problem.

I've used Earthlink since March '00 and I almost never have any disconnects.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions...

Here's a list of problems I've encountered with eln. Plenty of dc's, especially when it rains. I assume it has something to do with the quality of the actual phone line, i.e. insulation and other factors. The dialup numbers that I call that are supposed to support up to 56k usually don't and I end up connecting at about 32k.

Never was able to rectify the problems. So i dropped them and got broadband.

I run a TiBook and a Win98 and dropped Juno (no support for the Mac) for Earthlink. A month later, after frequent disconnects on both machines, slow throughput even during nonpeak (4am EST is busy?) hours, and general dissatisfaction I spent a half hour on hold to cancel the service. Switched to RoadRunner and everything works as expected. It's a shame that Apple associated itself with a company with such spotty service.

You can hardly fault EarthLink for problems with your phonelines. If you were getting DCs when it rained, then it appears that there were issues with your phone lines. Those issues are probably the same reason why you were not able to get up to 56K. Yes, their numbers support 56K, but line conditions between your house and their POPs were probably not good enough for higher speeds. Again, not their fault.

Broadband is the way to go though. I'm sure you're not looking back.
