I've been thinking about this for the last couple of years. I think AOL is well situated to give this a shot. A lot of businesses would benefit if Microsoft were diminished.

Well when I first read about the possibilty I was skeptical about AOL keeping their greedy corporate paws from violating the GPL and other Open Source licences. But after more reflection I suppose if RedHat recieved more funding and could develop needed areas quicker, better while still making their code Open Source the situation wouldn't be all that terrible.

AOL, in my opinion, is just another greedy, corportist, monopoly-mongering giant that would love to create and sustain a monopoly like MS. AOL has a vast empire of media outlets that give them the power to control content and access to information itself.

Doom and gloom? Possibly. The future is not set as they say.
