An AOL conspiracy?

Like I've said in previous posts, AOL scares me. Tell me if I'm just being paranoid. I probably am...

Anyway, I was flipping through the channels last night when I saw that story on Headline News about ComCast monitoring where their users go. In the story headline (you know, in the upper left corner of the t.v.), there was a mouse. I assumed it was because it was a computer related story. What I noticed was that the mouse was a logitech wheelmouse (I had just ordered one from buy.com the other day, I'm not that weird ) Anyway, I got my wheelmouse today and guess what was in there? An AOL CD. Aaaggghhh!!! They're everywhere, making in roads into our minds. Eventually, we'll stop noticing... that's scary.

AOL wants to rule the world. It's going to be interesting watch them slug it out with Microsoft over the next few years.

There is only one way to defeat this evil empire. Steal hundreds of the "400 hours free!" CDs. If everybody uses these CDs at the same time, it would devestate them! Bwahahahahah... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

hardly a good conspiracy theory. part of the reason aol became so popular is because they made/make (probably will continue making) those stupid cds/disks with their inet service on them. they tell all the resellers to just pop them in their boxes. they didn't do anything particularly (or at least recently) deviant to get that cd in there. they've been doing it. its their whole marketing strategy.

or: perhaps i'm just so used to it that it doesn't bother me.

I guess the conspiracy I'm talking about is the one with AOL and their subtle advertising for themselves or their partners. It's kind of scary because we're inundated with ads and we don't know it. It's not like a commercial when you know you're being sold something. What AOL is doing is much more disingenious and we probably don't even know it...
