Based on the specs a mini-displayport to displayport cable supports resolution up to 2560x1600, including 1080p and 1920x1200. I am using a 4 K monitor.

You'd need one of the newer cables that does 4K and there's an HDMI option:
The cable you mentioned does it fit the monitor with a display port and connect to the thunderbolt of a computer?
Thunderbolt and mini-displayport are the same connector although they aren't always compatible with each other; in this case they are. Apple started with mini-displayport on their computers, a port standard that they designed. When they started adopting Thunderbolt, which merges displayport output with PCIe, they just put it over the same mini-displayport.
The cables above will connect a computer with Thunderbolt to a 4K display with either displayport or HDMi input.

DisplayPort as in full size DisplayPort...
...or Mini DisplayPort?
You just need a mini-displayport to displayport cable like this:

It's not really an adaptor, it just has the small connector on one end and the large connector on the other end.

Thanks. A bit confuse. Currently I am having a display port cable (both ends).

Alternatively an adaptor with one end Display port (female) and the other end thunderbolt. Is there such an adaptor?
