Ok, Let me state that there is no hack required and I have a 100GB WD 7200RPM HDD in the ZIP bay. Yeah Baby! Shove a hard drive in there, my zip is now out of the machine in a drawer somewhere. Anyone want to buy it. Only used 4 times total. (I am serious here folks, If you want it, make an offer. noahj@***Die you spam spiders***mac.com)
What kind of connection inside the tower ? FireWire ? IDE ? Fujitsu are selling an IDE internal MO drive compatible with Macs.
Do I need to hack something to put in an internal MO drive ? Any idea ?</strong><hr></blockquote>
It is an IDE connection. Should work with no problems. If you have a sawtooth mac like me you also have internal Firewire ports as well, but no cables. So long as the MO drive is the same size as the zip drive or a HDD or a 3.5 Floppy it should fit. If it is CD drive sized, no it will not fit.
I've got a G3 B&W tower... I assume the metal case is exactly the same as the G4's.
Apple doesn't recommend putting anything in there except the Zip drive, something about the potential for overheating.
So, of course, I stuck a spare 12 GB HD in there a year ago. Haven't had any problems yet (though my original drive crapped out on me a few weeks ago).

I would love to put some MO drive inside this bay. Is it possible ?
I'm using a MO drive on my old Mac, and it's totally reliable. Fast, strong, efficient. IMHO, it's the best daily storage and backup drive.
I could hook a new external firewire MO drive to a new G4 tower, but I much prefer an internal drive.

MO disks are only 3.5", like the Zip floppies.
