I am new around here, and I do not know if this topic has ever come up before. If it has, please forgive me.

I was wondering if anyone could offer a comprehensive comparison of USB 1.1 and USB 2.0

What is the difference between the two? Does upgrading to 2.0 require that I replace my USB ports or is there just a new driver version that can be upgraded?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want to use USB 2.0 devces, you are going to need USB 2.0 ports, something Macs don't have built-in. However, if you want to continue using old USB 1.1 devices, you can use them in USB 2.0 ports.

Many USB 2.0 based devices will function when plugged into USB 1.1 ports, but at USB 1.1 speeds.
