I[t] actually pisses me off that the green button on a window makes your window go full-screen instead of changing the size of it.
If you mean changing the size of the window to fit the contents then there's a better way than pressing a tiny button, you can double click anywhere on the title bar, which used to minimise the window in early OS X.

No what he means is that the maximize button now makes apps go fullscreen, as in takes up 100% of the screen, hiding the dock and menu bar, instead of just fitting the app window to the screen width and height minus menubar and dock heights.
You can hold down, I believe, option +shift to do the original expected behavior. Holding just option makes the window height fit the screen
I just want to know why the Finder icon looks so childish and amateurish now. I always thought the Picasso-esque face was the right balance of quirky and unassuming. Now it looks garish and out of place. I worry that instead of fixing it they'll replace it with something completely different, removing one of the few long-time Apple icon that hasn't been stolen/copied by everyone else. (First world problems)
a common crit from people using the green button for the first time on a mac was, "why isn't it maximizing?" now it does.
Fullscreen isn't maximizing. Thats simply maximizing. If you want always maximized apps, use Windows 8 and you'll see how much of a pain in the ass it is to use when doing multiple things at once.
"For our pro users, often they want to really focus on the center of the screen and not be distracted by bright menus and bright dock [sic], so we also introduced a dark mode."
I think some (who inferred a "full-on dark theme") read too much into what was actually said and demoed. He clearly promised a non-bright menu and a non-bright dock "so you can focus on the center of the screen." In retrospect, it's clear that they were not planning on changing anything else and the center of the screen would be bright, so you can focus on it. It's fine to say you wish for something else, but they delivered exactly what they previewed.
I don't know many that use solely full-screen apps. I'm not really a fan of them to be honest. I actually pisses me off that the green button on a window makes your window go full-screen instead of changing the size of it. It was one of the features I reported to Apple to put back the way it was. There was nothing wrong with the Mavericks way of making an app go full-screen.
agree 100% - check out BetterSnapTool in the App Store for a sorta-workaround...
This is really unimpressive. No one needs a semi-transparent smoky quartz menu. Just make the goddamn menu black with white text and auto-hide the dock if you're serious about focus on work.

Oh ye of little faith! You do know that you still have the ability you seek in Yosemite don't you? ... Hint ... Option Key :smokey:
Also the multi screen or extended desktop options are all still there and changeable ... Mission Control Settings
It's worth pointing out that some 3rd party apps didn't write to the correct Apple code rules and their apps will not work in dark mode. Their menus will remain black on black. If you experience this please don't complain to Apple, tell the company that wrote the program you are using they broke protocol.

The point here is that your personal usage case isn't the only one on the planet.
Apple is giving users a choice. Like many other commenters here, you have blinders on and still don't seem to get this. Is it so hard to understand?
Remember that some Apple users aren't "pros" intent on "focusing on work." And many households might have some people who use their Macs professionally, while other family members might be using the device for other reasons.

You can toggle the translucency off in Accessibility settings and alter a few other asthetics.

Sigh.
If you use full-screen applications, this is an utterly pointless feature.
I wish there was a universal Sepia mode for the backgrounds of all applications, especially Safari, as can be found in iBooks.
My son has for years used some utility that does just that on his iMac. I suspect he might be using f.lux as it would automatically engage at night. http://superuser.com/questions/308746/sepia-filter-for-display-output-on-os-x

Thanks very much! I'll investigate that.

why's that?

I watched WWDC but don't recall...what did they say, exactly?
No, they said nothing of the sort. Keep your FUD to yourself.

I prefer using only one hand on my mouse as the other hand is usually occupied with something else.
But it looks like I will need to use both hands now.
I read this in a different context to which I think you meant it. " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
