Upgrade from iPhone 5 (7.1.2) to iPhone 6 (8.x) iTunes Backup
I have a question, because unfortunately I can't remember, what happened last time. Or should I say I think I can remember but I can't believe it actually happened.
The last upgrade I had an iPhone 4 with iOS 5, and then I got an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.
Now I know if you have an iPhone with say 7.1.2 and you do iCloud backups, if you get a new iPhone, even if it is running iOS 8, all you have to do is restore from iCloud backup and it will carry over all your settings and info to the new iPhone with the new OS.
Here is my question:
Do I have to upgrade my iPhone 5 from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8.x and then do a backup in iTunes, and then restore from backup to the iPhone 6 for iOS 8?
I vaguely remember last time I went from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, iTunes said you can't restore from a iOS 5.x to and iOS 6.x, please update first.
I think that's what it said, damn I hate that I can't remember this. It kinda makes sense tho, but then when you realize you don't have to do this if you restore from iCloud I ask myself why would I have to upgrade the 5 from 7.1.2 to 8 and then backup and restore to the 6.
Thanks for any confirmation.
I don't want to upgrade from 7.1.2 to 8 and I don't want to use iCloud backup.
