I was wondering, why not have the ability to engrave the back of iBooks/TiBooks? It'd be nice to have contact information engraved on whatever material they may be.

Any thoughts?

You do know that you could take this to ANY engraving shop and have them engrave it... for about 10 bucks.

I think the mirrored surface of the iPod necessitates the special 'laser printing' or whatnot...

I swear, people don't think of things until Apple does, then it's the greatest idea in the universe...

Sorry, having neither a iPod, iBook, or TiBook, I didnt know whether if it had to be done special or not.

I think you can also accomplish nice things with an etching compound and a plastic overlay (done by a pro shop). However, with the easy scratch surface of the iBook, it may be better to have them factory etched on the INSIDE of the see thru plastic cover.

One potential problem, though: Resale value. Would you buy a second hand iBook with Jonathan's name on it?

Then Apple should offer it for about 10 bucks and save us the trip to the engraving shop. 1-Click Shopping

Is it me or would the laser engraving melt the plastic of the iBook?

Of course, if Apple were to actually do this, you can bet your ass it wouldn't cost $10.
