He took the $2,600 computer back to the store he purchased it from ? five times... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

A definite candidate for an iMac.

I was just about to come here and post that!

Hilarious story - something I have dreamed about doing to my own PC at times. *sigh*

Bad part is, the dude's temper just cost him $2600. I don't think they will cover sledgehammer abuse under warranty...

Not to mention the fine he'll likely get.

Too bad no one got video of this...

I would guess that doing it with a sledgehammer, in a store with customers everywhere, isn't legal. What if a chunk of plastic took out a kid's eye?

Not to mention the fact that any women in there with their kids probably had the shit scared out of them. How would they know he only intended to take out the computer...

Not that I don't like to hear about the death and destruction of a Gateway PC, but this guy deserves to pay a big fine. Moron.

[quote] They jailed him, and he was released later Monday after posting a $150 bond for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor charge.

I think it's wrong for him to be arrested. He was simply a concerned citizen protesting the effects of Microsoft's monopoly on desktop operating systems. He should be given some kind of award, in fact.

It happened at the Gateway country just across town from me, I've heard from other people I know that their serivce is extremely bad there. If you don't own a gateway PC you can't buy anything from there not even general periferals. Totally stupid business practice. Also they can't fix a PC, I know a couple people that went in about that many times for stuff that didn't work and when fixed, something else turned up. I don't blame the guys extreme frustration. If you're paying $2,600 you expect it to work.

My lab's Gateways have been nothing but trouble...but they were also free. I'm sure this guy isn't the only one ready to take a sledgehammer to his Gateway. I wonder if we'll see copy-cats out there?

Of course if the same thing were about to happen at an Apple Store, I'd lunge in front of the sledgehammer...
