how to re-serialize a Macbook Pro (no blank serial, read post please)

Hi, I am looking for a way to modify my MacBook Pro's serial number.

The logic board was changed twice (!) in Bahrain by the crappy Apple Service there (the only one in the Gulf region though) before they realized it was a faulty RAM issue. They have put in the number that is imprinted on the second motherboard instead of the one printed on the case (the original one). Now several software associations do not work anymore, potentially I would loose hundreds of dollars of bought software licenses that are associated with the old serial number.

I have found software that allows to serialize Macs with NO serial numbers (Blank Board Serializer for example) but they all require that the serial is blank. My case is different, I have to reset the wrong one to the original one printed on the case. Apple service here says it can't do it, they want the machine to bear the motherboard's number, even if the case itself bears a different number - totally illogical for me. Any ideas?

BTW my Mac is a late 2011 MBP Pro 8.1 (2,5GHz 17 inch)

You should probably just contact the software vendors. Most will have support options, and you should be able to transfer your old licenses. This kind of issue isn't all that uncommon. As for the serial, you could brick your logic board that way if you mess up. I don't recommend it. Also keep in mind if the ram was an after market upgrade, you should always test it yourself upon installation. There are no exceptions to that rule.

It will cost you a lot of time and money, I do not recommend you do.
