CanoScan N1240U any good?

Does anyone have any experience with this scanner? I like it because it doesn't take up a lot of deskspace and it looks like my QuickSilver. The max resolution is 1200X2400.

    Overall I give it a thumbs up. Its small, makes good quality scans and has a reasonable speed.

    The major drawbacks are that it is slightly noisy(not a huge deal), you cant scan with the lid open(which sucks for doing creative things) and the beta OSX drivers have a good chance of screwing up your computer, so dont use them yet.

    So if youre running OS9 for your graphical work or you can wait for OSX drivers that wont harm your mac I would recomend it. You might also check out their lower end model. It has 1/2 the resolution(which is fine for most uses) and costs a lot less.

    Have only just bought it and have not had much time to play around with it, but first impressions are very good. It's perhaps a little slow, but not unbearably so.

    The value for money aspect is *very* good IMHumbleO. I got mine in the U.K., bundled with "Photoshop Elements" for £100, which I consider a steal. Elements is actually very neat.

    So far have only used it with 9, but that doesn't bother me too much. There is s/w that will make it work with X, VueScan <a href="http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html"; target="_blank">http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html</a>;

    The size is amazing, as are the looks. I can easily stow it away with my Ti in my Kensington Saddle Bag.

    I've had it for a month now and done over 500scans with it (Mac and PC). The beta drivers work (only in Photoshop 7beta for the moment, cant get it to work in Graphic Converter).

    VueScan now works with it and its great.

    The ONLY gripe I have with it is the speed. If you have to do 600dpi TIFF scans, a full page will take a minute or so. 300dpi and the such are fine.

    It is great quality scan and the fact that its about as thick as my iBook, no extra power cable, etc is also the reason I bought it.

    I would definetly get it. I give it a 9 out of 10.

    PS the 1250U is out now, it features same thing but now has USB2 support. Not much good for us Mac users, but if you are on a PC and have USB2 I guess the speed issue would be resolved.

    defently not supportet! canonscan NXXXX series have National Semiconductor LM9830, LM9831, LM9832 or LM9833 chips installed, which are quite difficult to write software for. but there is a classic support for osx out now: <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&db=mac&id=14167/SGX62MacOSX_beta.sit"; target="_blank">http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&db=mac&id=14167/SGX62MacOSX_beta.sit</a>. but the software runs only on classic! i have the n670u and i like it a lot, i need just one cable to connect to the cpu (no external powersupply). its absolutly compact. on the other hand the scanner is quiet slow, probably are the higher and newer editions faster.

    its actually been since 7.5.12 a few weeks ago... but still, I was surprised as much as you when I found out it was finally supported.

    I just want support for the auto-launch buttons on the scanner now (button for scan to email, scan to file, scan to ocr...)
