After two years of use my macbook pro 15", the black silicon gasket around the screen starts deteriorating, getting sticky and peeling off. I carried it to a service center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. after three weeks the returned the device and claimed it is only a cosmetic problem and can be fixed for about US$1,000.00. Obviously, I refused. after some time, I contact the customer service in Singapore, also they insist it is a cosmetic issue not a technical problem. In my opinion. this is a faulty material lead to this malfunction. I hope this issue reaches Apple in Cupertino and find a listening ear to correct the material malfunction.

You live in a very warm country, could it be that the heat and humidity has damaged the rubber seal round the edge? If it's sticky, there must be some glue melting or the rubber is deteriorating with the heat. This might have happened by leaving it in direct sunlight.

I recently noticed that the gasket has been flaking off. It is also noticeably stickier, and leaves gunky black residue on the palmrest when the lid is closed. Since I am a student, I cant afford to send it in for repairs at $1000 USD. I was hoping that someone has found a replacement for just the gasket, instead of the whole display assembly. Temperatures here average around 30 degrees celsius, so I think that the melting gasket is a result of both the Surrounding Heat and the Heat produced by the MacBook itself.
