Who uses their Mac's IR port, and what for?

With the elimination of the IR port from the new TiBooks and comments such as, "I don't think very many people used it anyway," I'm curious:

Who here has an IR port on their Powerbook, early iMac, or has added on an IR port; and ACTUALLY uses it?

I have one on my Pismo, and I use it to sync my Visor Edge with Palm Desktop when I'm away from the Visor's cradle. Very convenient, and I'd actually have issues with buying the new TiBook for that very reason.

It may be a little thing, but it's important to me.

I wrote a little program that lets my TiBook act as a remote to my television and DVD player, and my roommates stereo.

    Just kidding.

As you know I'm not a user of the irda port, but like you, I know people who seem to use it for the Palm.

    But that little quip above does give me an idea. . . . <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

i had my mom's rev. A iMac set up to hotsync through the infrared port. seemed to work well, no wires and no USB hassle. i've also had it set up to print over IR, but that was really slow and just a pain.

Use it for palm syncs. my brother uses it for something with his eMates, not sure what. Mother uses it I believe with HP printers at work. And we were about to purchase a cell phone that could connect via infrared

I use the one on my PowerBook 2400 to sync with my Palm handhelds, but that was it really. I use the IR port on my PC to synchronize my heart rate monitor... which I'd do on my Mac if Polar supported their software on a mac

I use it loads for internet access with my phone. I wouldn't mind if they replaced it with bluetooth (my phone can be upgraded with bluetooth), but to get rid of the port completely means I won't be getting a new TiBook for a while.

I used mine go to webwards whilst in southern Africa: bought a local SIM card on pay-as-you-go and never looked back.

Mail from the top of Table Mountain?

    Well, why not.

(I didn't actually do that. But I could have. If I'd wanted to.)
