Microphone integration to MacBook Pro 2012
I've got an MacBook Pro 2012 and I am trying to connect a external Microphone. Since there is no built in Audio in Port I tried to go over my screen since it has a audio in port as well as an audio out port. So my question is "Is it possible to use a Microphone trough my screen audio in port though the HDMI cable to my laptop and if yes how do I do it?" (sorry for bad english)

The headphone jack is a mic input but you might need a certain kind of mic:

If you look at system prefs > sound > input, there should be a way to switch from the standard mic to an external either with a dropdown or with a line-in option.
Another route you can go is USB:

Thank you, that was really helpful although the first one didn't work for my particular laptop I got the USB device and it is now working.
