Where to buy DVD-R media for cheap?

I was told that there are a few places that sell DVD-R media for dirt cheap. Like less than two bucks. Is it true? If so, where? Are the quality decent?

If you want name-brand 2x media, it doesn't get much cheaper than Apple...especially if you get the student discount.
My friend buys 1x media from disksdirect.com though I've never dealt with them.
