PowerLogix 750 MHz-1GHz G4 upgrades
The wait is finally over:
<a href="http://www.powerlogix.com/news/press.html#powerforceg4" target="_blank">http://www.powerlogix.com/news/press.html#powerforceg4</a>
Question is whether the 7455 is really worth it on a 100 MHz bus, as these are available for 100 or 133 bus. I don't think it would be worth it to have a 1 GHz over a 750 if you get a 100 MHz bus version.
Also, I think this could point to something big at MWNY because I don't think Apple has wanted the upgrades to be as competitive with their machines, however you can now purchase a G4 upgrade at Apple's top clockspeed (granted it is single processor still).

You know, it's possible to buy a 733 MHz G4 CPU daughter card for $300, and then overclock it to 800 MHz. Just goes to show you how much of a rip off that powerlogix upgrade is.
Im intending to get the 1ghz for my g4 400, and im expecting Cinebench to show me a score of 12-13 for software rendering, while I'd expect a 750 to show me about 9 CB's.
Maybe if I wrote an altivec app to send the processor 10billion instances of 1+1, I could max out the bus, but I'd not have thought otherwise.
????Not really sure....Discuss
Edit: Also on the powerlogix page it says that the 7455 has 4 integer, 1 double FPU and 4 altivec units. Does this mean that you can now dispatch 4 instructions to Altivec, as opposed to the 7450's 2 at once and the 7400's 1 at a time?
