i think almost every macworld, seybold, .. whatever event is great. its easier to count which ones weren't. i can think of 1, last mwny. it was a bit of a letdown if i remember correctly. (i was really hoping, w/o any legitimate reason to, that the powerbooks were going to get dual procs. what a crazy idea that was.)
i thot when noah wyle came out as steve was really great too. it might be kewl for apple if they made a bit more of a show out of the expos. i mean like a little more of a stage-act, at least when they dont have any hdwr to showoff. maybe if they do some short abbot 'n' costello bit, but update it for computers (who's on the harddrive? yes, who is on the hard drive, and what is in the RAM. )
Easily, EASILY the unveiling of Aqua. Those 20 minutes were so incredible... I don't think there was a single second that I wasn't thinking about the OS X GUI that week. And the iTools announcement was ultra-cool, too. That whole show was the **** , actually. I think it's really what made me become a Mac user (I still owned a PC back then).
Yeah, but NONE of us were expecting a 14" iBook. And we were blown away by the design, and we weren't expecting a G4. They did go overboard though.</strong><hr></blockquote>
You're right about the 14" iBook, but that thing is ugly and you don't get any extra screen space. No big deal there. A lot of people thought the iMac would get a G4, so that's no big surprise either. The only thing no one expected was the great design.

why do people get big screen tvs? they don't get any extra screen space. and they are usually ugly as hell
What's the deal with people calling the 14" iBook ugly? It's just a little larger than the 12" version. I think it looks almost as good, though definitely less cool. I was stunned by the size of the 12" iBook when I first saw one in an Apple store.
Maybe the 14" isn't "inspiring" or "beautiful," but save "ugly" for descriptions of HP/Dell/Gateway/Compaq laptops.
Why doesnt anyone mention the unvailing of the original imac? That was the one that turned everything around for Apple. I dont remember it that well (hey, i was like 10 or 11 years old then), put that computer looked really nifty to me . Back then i also had no clue what really went in a computer, but thats what got me hooked.

Because it wasn't originally unveiled at MacWorld.
I guess i do need some sleep. Gettin up at 2:30 am to watch the world cup is getting to me  .
Well, in that case, i gotta give it the cube. That was my favorite computer of all time. You just gotta love a computer so well designed like that. too bad it never cought on. If you think about it though, turn the cube into half a sphere, attach a 15 in LCD, and cut the price down to $1,800, you got yourself a new imac.
Never have I seen a Mac audience so captivated and in awe more than during those brief moments that Steve was showing off Aqua. I was watching it live over my uncle's cable modem and thinking, "Damn... just... it's... like... damn man."
edit: oh, and be sure to note Steve's "roll out" schedule around 1:13:00. Hee hee. A little ambitious were we? It's funny how slow everything is in the build he's using too. Also, note a certain Finder feature that is just now getting to work in Jaguar. Ha! Another great MacWorld moment occurred around 1:48:30 to 1:49:30. "It's loading... or not."

It wasn't *that* ambitious. Look at it this way. Mac OS X was on sale in September 2000 in the form of a Public Beta. That fits his Summer release roll-out plan.
And Mac OS X was pre-installed on machines by WWDC 2001, so he was only 5 months off. That sure beats having Windows 98 first hitting store shelves as a retail product in 1999, or Windows NT 5 being about 2.5 years late...
...though I guess you can claim Apple's next-gen OS strategy was also about 2.5 years behind the original schedule...
The lack of speed is what I notice now too. "OK, let's launch a preference panel here..." *takes a drink of water* *clears throat* "Aaaaaaand here it is."
The 1997 summer macworld keynote with bill gates has to be the most important one in recent memory, but the first one I actually watched was the 1999 iBook intro.
I think I missed the january one this year because I was at work. I'll probably miss the July one this year because I'll be at work.
I did like the one where iTunes was introduced. I believe it was a january keynote - 2001 maybe?
If I remember, there wasn't much to say for the hardware but a lot of interesting software was shown off.

But the BEST was when the Powerbook would NOT wake up from sleep. Jobs was trying to show how fast portables wake from sleep in X. That was classic.

i dont recall ever watching it. please link me...please?
Unfortunately some of the older keynotes don't seem to be complete. All I can get out of this one is Quicktime TV (oooohh...) and MacOS 9.

"i've seen the future of computing" came to my mind.
hey, and nowadays it's just standard eye candy. strange world. now i'd like to have an interface like in "minority report"
