More Moto cuts, semiconductor consolidation

In another sign of the current economic conditions and Motorola's intent to move to a 'fab-lite' model of semiconductor operations they have announced another 7,000 lay offs and consolidation of more semiconductor facilities. They don't name the facilities so I can't be sure if these are actual MOS fabs or some of their test facilities overseas. <a href="http://www.siliconstrategies.com/story/OEG20020627S0005"; target="_blank">http://www.siliconstrategies.com/story/OEG20020627S0005</a>;

I saw quotes by a Moto exec in another article talking to how they want to move much of their business to TSMC is interesting. Seeing how taiwanese foundries do not have the expertise to make high speed CPUs it will be interesting to see what this means for Motorola's PowerPC products.
