iPad Won't Backup to Mac
I'm trying to back up my IPad 4th generation to my Mac Book Pro Retina and i'm getting an error message that it will not sync. Need to get this working by Thursday when my new IPad 2 Air arrives.
Message: The IPad "BobM" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50).
Anyone have a idea of what is wrong and a fix for the issue?
Thanks,

This is a separate process from syncing.
The new iPad can be set up from such a backup.
spheric you are correct. My question should have been backup and not sync.
Thanks for the response.
So, to clarify: is your issue solved, since the Message you quote above relates to syncing and not backup, or have you been unable to restore the new iPad from a backup of the old one?
Are you trying it over Wifi or wired? Wired will probably be easier to get working but both are options. Try a known good USB cable directly to the Mac (not through a port replicator/dock/hub). Is there sufficient storage space on the Mac? Have you rebooted the Mac and iPad?
If you can't get it to work then go for an iCloud backup. The restore will take longer than local, but if it works, then it's better than nothing.
I think I'm on track now. I change to a different USB port on my MBP and the IPad backed up with no issues. I'll know for sure when I restore to the new IPad tomorrow.
Thanks for the responses.
