My talk with this guy really made me laugh

I was talking to a Computer system administrator (also a system BTOer) who claimed himself having been in the video industry for many years.

Well....guess what he was telling me when we were talking about getting a computer system for video editing.

He said NO ONE on planet uses Mac to do editing. 99% of Mac users use PC with Premiere for their video need. Premiere has over 95% of market share in the video market

PLUS. He even says he can build a PC system, Premiere for 1200 CDN and can do real-time.

He is a pretty nice guy by the way but this doesn't help me stop laughing at him.

That's no way for premiere to do realtime without extra hardware. The hardware card (Matrox RT) alone cost over 1000 CDN.

And say 95% of the video market use Premiere and 99% of Mac people use PC for video....etc....those kind of bullsh!t are really bongus....

Good laugh though

That is some good stuff, it's kind of funny when they do behind the scene on how they make movies and stuff and you always see a Mac doing the work. Huh.

Maybe Leonis thought he was on candid camera or something, and was waiting for them to jump out and say "Gotcha"

Well. I just find it pointless to have any argument with people who has no clue on what's he's thinking. Doing so is just wasting my time, my breath....

recently had a coversation with a kid, who in one fell swoop said.

    win2k sucks, win98 is better.

usb 2.0 is better than firewire.

intel is NOT catching up to AMD for chip speed.

    Macs suck.

needless to say, i disregarded his opinions with prejudice.

I'd really like to know what video market he is talking about. It's been a long time since I walked into a post house and saw a Premiere workstation. I know a lot of places have been moving to PC based systems for Avids... but FCP has been gaining a lot of ground as well.

I didn't even know people still used Premiere. Maybe that's why I can't book any time on my Avid system... people want a PC with Premiere, not a Mac with Media Composer <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Win2k and Win98 are both bad, but Win2k is probably better since it's still used as a server and stuff. I still think that Win3.1 or DOS would be the best PC OS because there are fewer things that MS's programmers were able to insert bugs into.

The value of USB2 should not be ignored, as it is both backwards and forwards compatible with USB1. To save cost on an entry level computer, only USB2 ports could be used, providing connections for both low and high speed peripherals. But USB2 has a much lower sustained transfer rate than FireWire. Macworld did an array of three tests recently comparing USB1, USB2, and FireWire. Both beat USB1 hands down, and USB2 and FireWire tied on one test. FW was twice the speed of USB2 on the other two tests, despite having lower maximum speed.

I don't really know who's faster, Intel or AMD. AMD has slower clock speeds, but given Intel's habit of destroying their chips so they look faster, I could definitely see AMD winning. And AMD is just cool.

Macs don't suck, they're just misunderstood.

Don't you hate it when PC users not only say that Macs suck, but when they say that Macs are pretty much completely useless? Rrrgg! It's a freaking computer, each can do about what the other can do.

Why do people feel the need to post such drivel. Gimme one dumbass pc user, and i'll find you the mac equivalent.

If you think a post is "drivel" then don't reply to it. My six month old god daughter could work that one out.

There is never any shortage of people who will state made-up BS as if it were absolute truth, and who will tell you you're an idiot when you call them on it. They'll pull the most ridiculous nonsense out of their rear ends, and completely disregard any attempt to set them straight, and they just get nastier and nastier the more you challenge them (because they know they're wrong and can't stand to admit it).

There seems to be an unusually high percentage of these types, though, in the computer sales departments at Circuit City and CompUSA!
