G4 widescreen iBook

I was thinking the other day about what Apple could release that would make me sell my SuperDrive iMac.

The 17" iMac is tempting (and came closest), but I'm really, really tired of doing the "chained to a desk" thing. I'd love to get a laptop, but I won't lie: I just dig this glossy white iStuff so much. I don't like the PowerBook's look. I mean, I like it...it looks really snazzy. But, it's not me. I personally would prefer the iBook look/feel over it.

If I won a contest and could go to Apple and have them design and build a custom "one off" computer for me, basically I'd ask that they take the size and slimness of a Titanium PowerBook, wrap it in a white glossy iBook shell (with the toughness/protection iBooks seem to have over the TiBooks).

I'd be happy with the resolution that came with the first generation of TiBooks (can't remember exactly, but wasn't it 1152 by 768? Something like that).

Other:

- G4 @800MHz (I'm not greedy, and I'm not a MHz/speed freak)

- 80GB hard drive

- Slot-loading Combo Drive (faster than the current ones...SuperDrive would be nice, but I honestly - not having a camcorder or digital camera and all - don't know when, or if, I'm ever going to use one)

- Decent video card...anything comparable (or above) to what I have in my iMac would be fine)

- I don't even want the monitor spanning capabilities...simple mirroring (for instruction/tutorials) would be fine for me.

Basically the best of both world: iBook style/toughness with TiBook slimness, slot-loading drive and screen size.

I'd even sacrifice the slimness a bit. I'd be okay if it was a thick as the current iBooks. Just to get a 15" widescreen in an iBook shell would be AWESOME.

So, within reason, what would be your "fantasy, one-off" Macs if you, say, won a contest and had a day to spend with Apple to spec out your "dream Mac" (and they had to build it for you).

Let's keep this grounded: components, features, etc. that actually EXIST, okay?

All I want is a TiBook that doesn't run so hot that it needs a fan. That and it doesn't have the cosmetic issues that plague the current models. Speed? Don't care much. Mine's plenty fast....

I guess I'm easy to please.

edit: god-damn. I hate Windows XP (I'm stuck at work. What a piece of junk. Seriously it seems like bubble-characters blew up all over the screen. UGLY!)

THE reason the iBooks can't be as thing is because if a TiBook falls on the floors, it is done and the paint is gone.... with an iBook, it can sustain daily abuse plus the once in a while three foot fall to the ground. And still boot up! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
