New MWNY PowerMac G4 benchmarks

Let's just say that at MWNY, the new top-end machine is a dual 1.4Ghz (tweaked)G4 with 266Mhz DDR RAM (not the XServe DDR bus, but a true DDR pipe to the processor) and a GF4 Ti standard.

The tweaked G4 has deeper pipelines (10-14 or whatever), same cache, possibly .13 micron wiring, and any other "realistic" mods a new G4 might have.

What kind of performance increase would/could the above new machine with it's improvements gain over the current dual 1GHz in areas that we like to beat to death that are the current weak areas such as games, 3d/rendering, (or any apps) what have you.

I am looking for (hopefully) informed speculation of new G4 vs. old G4. I don't really care about the vs. Intel/AMD comparisons because they do not run the Mac OS so I don't care about them, no matter how fast they are. And yes, while I do realize that in some areas PC's are beating the Mac handily, it still does not matter to me because they are not a mac.

Well, the new G4 will not scale linearly with clockspeed relative to performance. You can expect that the new G4 (let's call this G4.5 - G4 and a half) will be about 97.2% of the speed of the old G4 per megahertz. However, with TMOPS topping 32,157, the G4.5 will show performace gain - even at the entry level. I would speculate that the dual 1.2 GHz G4.5 will be 114.9% of the speed of the dual 1GHz G4. However, using Photoshop 7.0.1298 (Special Apple Edition), the G4.5 will be 218.32% faster. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Come on . . . Nobody knows what speeds, etc. or even if there will be a new G4. Who knows what kind of performance gain we'll get.

    (I'm sorry . . . I'm feeling a little cynical )

Maybe BIG if this thing <a href="http://www.marvell.com/Internet/News/Show_News_File/1,2410,387,00.html"; target="_blank">http://www.marvell.com/Internet/News/Show_News_File/1,2410,387,00.html</a>; ends up in Apple's computers.

After carefully collating rumor sources we have a fairly good idea of the speed of the coming Macs. Here we have the Speed comparison including the new high end Mac
