What the heck is this?

1.Do you make them from DVD's?

If so, How, & what software do you use.

2.Do you buy movie's in these formats? If so where & why?

3. What advantages do these formats have over DVD.

4. How do you play svcd's and vcd's.

Thanks for any help.

    1. well kinda, to make a svcd you need a mpeg2 movie (mpeg1 for vcd). so you either download these movies somewhere or you or you gotta make 'em yourself

get a dvd, rip the video/audio files in the language you want, convert the video stream to quicktime, convert the audio stream to aiff, then convert the qt file to mpeg2 (this is when you need to choose the bitrate, fps,..) and the aiff to mp3, now sync video and audio and your set. then use vcdtools to create images toast can burn.

it takes quite a lot of time on macs though, so i've never actually done this.

i think there a quite a few tutorials in the 3ivx/divx forum that might help you.

    2. um, no

    3. its smaller and can be pirated easier

    4. get <a href="http://www.videolan.og"; target="_blank">videolan</a>

    Oh thank you!

Post any and all info you have, I really appreciate it.

Hopefully I can find a step by step processes and list of needed software. I have no knowledge of Video anything as i deal with stills.
