I got this funny e-mail from Microsoft today. Notice how much it mentions "switch"? I love the part about "Switching" from Mail.app to Entourage! LOL. Looks like Apple and MS are gonna play hardball soon!

Are you getting the most out of Microsoft Office v. X? Here's a reminder of what the newest bells and whistles can do for you. Or maybe you're considering a switch to Office v. X. These articles and tips can answer your questions about the transition from a previous version.

** Pick up right where you left off

Office 98, Office 2001, and Office v. X for Mac all use a consistent file format, which makes upgrading a snap. Any documents you've created by using any of these versions of Office will open in any other version with no special conversion.

** Tips before you upgrade Word

When you start Word X for the first time, the program searches for a previous version on your computer, and if one is found will copy most of your settings and other information. Read this tip for more information about how Word X searches for and copies information from previous versions.

** Upgrading to Excel X? Read this before removing Excel 2001

Have you added terms to the custom dictionary or the AutoCorrect list? Created your own custom toolbars or charts? If so, you can keep these custom settings by copying a few files.

** Switch from Apple Mail to Entourage without missing a beat

If you've been using Apple Mail, you can start using Entourage(TM) without losing any of the messages you've already received. After installing Entourage, you can run an AppleScript script that copies messages from your mailbox in Apple Mail to a folder in Entourage.

** Switching? Here's what's new in Office v. X

Office v. X sports a bold new look that's all Mac. But that's not all. Great new features give you more control than ever over your documents. From Multi-selection and Clear Formatting in Word to Chart Transparency in Excel and a fresh, new interface in Entourage, there's a lot to like about this version of Office. See what's new in all the Office v. X programs: Word X, Entourage X, PowerPoint(R) X, and Excel X.

* Tip for Office 98 users If you're upgrading from Office 98, you get all the new Office v. X features plus all the new features introduced in Office 2001. They're included in Office v. X.

lol! after I read this post, I went to watch the news while I ate lunch, and a MSN internet access commercial came on. The entire commercial was about "switching" from AOL to MSN. They even offer a "switchers guide" to help you get your address book imported. Now, I know that this term has been around since the 1600s, but it is kinda odd that MS just found it. But then again, maybe we're just more sensitive to it now...

Isn't it ironic that you have run an Applescript to import mail from Mail to Entourage? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />
